When you hear the name "Sonic Racing" you probably think "Mario Kart." Well, I did too. Sonic Racing has some aspects similar to Mario Kart, but it is very different in other ways. Here is my review of the game from Apple Arcade.
One of the biggest differences in Sonic Racing is that you race in a team of three, and you control the lead car. You only race against one other team. I find this strange and think it would be more fun to have six players instead of two teams of three. Perhaps it is a server issue, but I would think SEGA would be able to handle it.
One of the similarities is power ups. Power ups here are called Wisps. Wisps are little creatures with different abilities. As you play wisps can be powered up by collecting or buying there cards.
There are also challenges and evens to earn rings. The rings let you purchases more wisps.
After each race you can earn trophies. Trophies unlock new leagues which in turn unlock new courses and characters.
That's the basics of the game.

Here are my Pros and Cons of the game.
Fun racing game with familiar characters
Awards to unlock and different race tracks and cars/characters to unlock as you play
Can use a controller, although I found it easier on my iPad without one.
No $4.99/month fee that Mario Kart for iOS charges (Yes, you have to pay that amount for Apple Arcade, but you are getting access to MANY more games for that price.)
In my testing Sonic Racing has much better controls than Mario Kart for iOS
Available on iPhone, iPad and AppleTV
Offline mode only lets you play in Practice mode
Why do you have a team? I don't get the point.
Wisps are confusing.
Gameplay its too fast for the smaller screen of the iPhone and with that controlling is very difficult on the small phone screen.
Very few characters are unlocked at the start
The app crashes a lot from the menu screen
Some races just end after a few seconds (assuming it is a server issue or the other player stopped playing?)
Overall Sonic Racing is fun, even though confusing. It is still worth the download if you are a fan of this genre and you subscribe to Apple Arcade.
